On the 24th of February The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall met with the Polish community: Second World War Polish veterans, second and third generation Polish schoolchildren and members of the latest wave of immigrants.
The event was the Federation of Poles in Great Britain and the Polish Social and Cultural Association. The program included: The Royal Couple viewing the Exhibition celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Solidary Movement in Poland, piano recital by 12 year old Polish pianist Karol Rybarczyk, short play by the Polish Children's and Youth Theatre, tasting Polish food and of course meeting with representatives of various groups of the Polish community.
SOS Polonia was invited too, represented by Barbara Storey who told Prince Charles that we, Poles in Southampton know about the Prince's Trust and admire it's beneficial impact on lives of many young people. Prince Charles smiled and asked Mrs Storey: ‘Are you one of the beneficiaries?'
Barbara: ‘Unfortunately I am a bit too old for the program but there are other people from my community who benefit from your Trust'.
Prince Charles: ‘Maybe it's time to start a Polish section of this program?'
So, dear Polish citizens of Southampton, what do you think? Shall we?
