Operation Canvas police appeal to Southampton's Polish community following fatal road traffic collision

Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Southampton are appealing to the city's Polish community for help.
Just before 5pm on Saturday, October 18, 2008, a blue Audi A3 heading towards Southampton along the Thomas Lewis Way at Portswood was in collision with a man who was crossing the road.
The collision happened at the junction with Highfield Lane and St Denys Road. .
The pedestrian, 55-year-old Geoffrey Hall from Bullar Road, Southampton, was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
The Audi driver, a 22-year-old man from Southampton, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He was bailed until Tuesday, February 3, 2009. .
PC Ed Wilson from the Totton Roads Policing Unit said "Portswood has a strong Polish community and I'm hoping that someone from that community saw the collision and can help us piece together what happened."
In a statement, Mr Hall's family said:  "Our dad, Geoffrey Hall, known by his friends as Geoff, was a devoted and caring man who always put his family first. If there was anything he could do for us then he would do whatever he could to help.
"We would like to thank all of the ambulance team, doctors, nurses and everyone involved in helping our dad for all they did and their efforts to keep him alive, although sadly it was not enough.
 "Good night and god bless, dad and granddad. We love you dearly and, one day, may we be reunited."
